Can your blood heal your skin?

It’s spooky season and with Halloween just around the corner, what better time to talk about the facial treatment that utilises your own blood to rejuvenate the complexion. We are talking about Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy! At VIVA we combine PRP Facials with Hyaluronic Acid for a two-pronged beauty treatment that leaves the skin smooth, plump and hydrated?

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a gel-like substance that naturally occurs in the body. It attracts and absorbs water like a sponge and works to cushion and hydrate joints, nerves, eyes, hair and skin. When it comes to the skin, HA is a big deal; by retaining up to 1000 times it’s volume in water, it holds the key to retaining a smooth and moisturised complexion. Over time the amount of HA we produce begins to decrease due to the natural ageing process and other external factors such as sun exposure, smoking, alcohol and pollution. For this reason we use HA based dermal fillers to help restore volume and hydration and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles and we can also now use this amazing substance in our PRP facials.

How is HA combined with PRP?

Our PRP treatments involve taking a sample of the patient’s own blood and spinning this in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma.. This is then reintroduced into the skin at the point to be treated, using the body’s own growth factors to rejuvenate from within. When it comes to our PRP Collagen Renewal Facials we can simply mix the PRP with a small amount of HA for even more effective results. We use a micro-needling technique to put this complexion loving mixture back into the skin for that youthful, radiant glow.
